As a citizen I get to pay taxes
I don't think its any great shakes,
I'd prefer to keep the money.
I learnt to polish my shoes in the army
The words of our national anthem were posted in the army classrooms.
We marched into the parade ground and I felt like a man.
I stood by a flame & saluted
my brothers who allowed me to stand in their places.
I learned to polish my shoes in the army.
