Wife Hunting

I should be doing a whole lot of things other than reading crap on the net. Or writing. But I will share a few suggestions from Luke Ford. I hope he'll forgive me for quoting and not just linking.

Luke needs a wife:

Another year passes (on the Jewish calender), another year in which Luke has failed to find himself a wife. And yet he is popular with the ladies, is in wide circulation. Why? As to all questions, the answer is to be found in Torah. Luke is single because he has failed to avial himself of the following time-tested techniques set forth in the bible for obtaining a wife:

  1. Find an attractive prisoner of war, bring her home, shave her head, trim her nails, and give her new clothes. Then she's yours. -- (Deuteronomy 21:11-13)
  2. Find a prostitute and marry her. -- Hosea (Hosea 1:1-3)
  3. Find a man with seven daughters, and impress him by watering his flock. -- Moses (Exodus 2:16-21)
  4. Purchase a piece of property, and get a woman as part of the deal. -- Boaz (Ruth 4:5-10)
  5. Go to a party and hide. When the women come out to dance, grab one and carry her off to be your wife. -- Benjaminites (Judges 21:19-25)
  6. Have God create a wife for you while you sleep. Note: this will cost you a rib. -- Adam (Genesis 2:19-24)
  7. Agree to work seven years in exchange for a woman's hand in marriage. Get tricked into marrying the wrong woman. Then work another seven years for the woman you wanted to marry in the first place. That's right. Fourteen years of toil for a woman. -- Jacob (Genesis 29:15-30)
  8. Cut off 200 foreskins off of your future father-in-law's enemies and get his daughter for a wife. -- David (I Samuel 18:27)
  9. Even if no one is out there, just wander around a bit and you'll definitely find someone. (It's all relative of course.) -- Cain (Genesis 4:16-17)
  10. Become the emperor of a huge nation and hold a beauty contest. -- Xerxes or Ahasuerus (Esther 2:3-4)
  11. When you see someone you like, go home and tell your parents, "I have seen a ...woman; now get her for me." If your parents question your decision, simply say, "Get her for me. She's the one for me." -- Samson (Judges 14:1-3)
  12. Kill any husband and take HIS wife. (Prepare to lose your son though). -- David (2 Samuel 11)
  13. Wait for your brother to die. Take his widow. (It's not just a good idea, it's the law). -- Onan and Boaz (Deuteronomy or Leviticus, example in Ruth)
  14. Don't be so picky. Make up for quality with quantity. -- Solomon (1 Kings 11:1-3)

Nu? Instead of re-reading the J-singles blogs we should all be out following God's commandments.

Too many blogs

There are blogs about fish and blogs about Fridays. If you look in the right places you can find blogs in favor or against, or apathetic about just about anything. All I know is that I'm blowing too much time reading them all.

My opinion. The best blogs are not the nest because of the blogger but because of the comments. It's a phenom I first saw on UnbrokenGlass.com. The community that arose made reading a blog entry like sitting down with friends for coffee and the latest bit of news. I think that the folks writing the blogs with large followings know that when they write they're opening a table and serving cake.

Also the readers. They get to know each other in a little circle of blogs. We all read the same ones, comment, get to know other peoples writing style. It's even interesting to see a new blog-zone develop. Sometimes with a bang, some times slowly. Also there are some blogs I've been reading for months and never saw them grow beyond a few people. What are the components of a winner?

  1. Write about one or two wordy topics.
  2. Post at least twice a week.
  3. After you have one or two people, post something spicy.
  4. Keep posting and replying.
  5. Return to step 2.

I guess it wouldn't be so hard to break in but do I want to?

Mission from God II

I don't know why I'm here in Sydney. I mean why in the larger, cosmic sense of things. I'm meeting people, having fun, helping out a bit but I have yet to be hit with "Your mission, if you chose to accept it...". But I guess that don't happen in real life. All of the different things I'm coming across are potential missions and I get to choose.

Rosh HaShana. In many ways I'm a long way from where I was last year. There are a few things that have remained but this has been a fairly revolutionary year. People, places, decisions. Wow. I guess that's what's supposed to happen over a year. If we stayed the same it'd be boring.

I pray that I make the right decisions and that my decisions are the right ones. And that I will have the strength of mind to make decisions.

Footy

Imagine an NFL game with a few changed rules:

-No Blocking. Who ever has the ball has to make it on their own.
Running a block for the ball carrier is penalized as obstruction.

-No forward pass. Even at the start of a play, you can only run the
ball or lateral.

-No stopping between plays for a huddle and re-organize. Who ever was
tackled with the ball starts off the play. Immediately after he gets
up.

It makes for one hell of a game. Lots of running. Fast paced. You
play straight. Non-stop. Oh yeah, and no helmets or padding.

Tonight was the equivalent of the Super Bowl. Great game.

Not caring about either team I decided who I would root for by flipping a coin.
Go Tiggies! And we won.
